All-time NBA Great Dwyane Wade’s Historical Career Comes to an End
April 13, 2019An NBA without Dwyane Wade. It sounds just as off as it is going to feel. But, after 16 seasons, three NBA Championships, a Finals MVP, and 13 All-Star appearances, D-Wade’s illustrious career has come to an end.
This was a date circled on calendars of Miami and NBA fans alike but, not for a good reason. It was a day that was looming and one that all fans expected but hoped would never come.
His very last dance was finally here.
Wade’s retirement announcement at the start of the season gave all the NBA, both its players and its fans, one last time to appreciate the legend’s greatness. It was an opportunity that fans of any sport so often do not get.
Yet, as expected as it was, it does not make it easier for “Wade County” to say goodbye to their beloved star.
This is the future hall-of-famer that brought the Miami Heat all three of their franchise’s NBA championships. This is the man from Chicago that embraced Miami as his home away from home. Through thick and thin, this was the player who stuck with the franchise until the very end.
In an NBA age where player mobility is the new norm, Wade stayed true to the team that brought him in the league 16 years ago.
And for all that, Heat fans are forever grateful.
They knew they had to give the Miami Heat legend a hero’s farewell. And a hero’s farewell is exactly what his family, fans and franchise gave him this past Tuesday in Wade’s last game in Miami.

Since being drafted by the Miami Heat 5th overall in 2003, Wade has tallied the 29th most points (23,165), 29th most steals (1,620) and the 41st most assists (5,701) in NBA history.
The numbers alone however, do not tell the whole story. It was a career filled with jaw-dropping performances and unfathomable displays of basketball talent.

It is more than just what Wade does on the court that inspires. It is what he does off of it too, that changes the lives of many.
Wade will be remembered not only as the epitome of NBA excellence, but also for being an individual with exceptional character.
“You are bigger than basketball,” says his mother, Jolinda Wade.
Despite it being a day that no one wanted to come, Wade gave the NBA one last season that no one will forget. From the jersey swaps to game-winning shots, Heat fans were given the one last chance they deserved to savor the man that has given them so much.
